SKIN CARE FAVORITES

This week I’d like to tell you about some skincare products that I have been enjoying. Two of these are recent discoveries, but the rest are tried-and-true products that I have repurchased two or more times.

My newest find is the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops serum. I’d seen social media influencers rave about this product but never paid it much attention and didn’t plan to try it. Well, then I received a sample size of the Glow Recipe serum and was unexpectedly impressed with how moisturizing it was and how soft it made my skin feel. The company calls it a “highlighting serum” that provides a “glow” or slightly shiny finish and, with regular use, reduces hyperpigmentation. It can be used under makeup as a moisturizer. It’s such a cosmetically elegant product with the perfect amount of smoothness and hydration for my oily skin type. I have yet to come across another moisturizer that gives my “mature” skin a softer, more moisturized look without making it look and feel greasy. It does have a slight watermelon scent.

The other more recent find is Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. I have been using the sample size for about a month and have another sample size waiting in the wings. This one is, like the Glow Recipe, very moisturizing but not too heavy for my oilier skin type. I use it as a night cream and have been pleased with how soothing it is. It has not caused any sensitivities or clogged pores. Kiehl's claims that the product contains “glacial glycoprotein,” which is supposed to “deeply hydrate.”

Now on to my repurchased products that I have been using long term. I’ve mentioned my favorite sunscreen, Paula’s Choice Super-Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30 Whatever, on my blog before. I adore it so much and have repurchased countless tubes of it because it does not leave a sticky, oily-feeling residue after it dries down. It also has a slight tint to help tone down the chalky white cast left behind by many mineral sunscreens. The only drawback is that it is not water-resistant, so it might not be the best choice if you’re going to be outside for long periods of time, but that’s not usually a problem for me since I spend most of my week in an office.

Another longtime favorite of mine is the Dr. Jart Ceramidin line. I’m on my second tube of the lotion (thinner) version, the Ceramidin Body Lotion, but my absolute favorite is the thicker cream version, the Ceramidin Skin Barrier Moisturizer. I’m working through a full-size tube of it now and have used multiple sample sizes, and I don’t go through it very quickly because I use it as an eye cream. My eyelids are sensitive and prone to eczema, and Ceramidin is one of the few moisturizers I’ve tried that doesn’t sting, even though it does not advertise itself as an eye product.

Next up is Paula’s Choice 10% Azelaic Acid Booster. Azelaic acid is available in the US in prescription form at higher concentrations, but a 10% concentration can be sold over the counter. It is meant to help reduce redness associated with rosacea. I’m on my second tube and do think it helps lessen the intensity of my facial redness as long as I use it each night consistently. It’s easy to squeeze out of the tube and comes out as a thick, white cream that blends in easily and feels a bit moisturizing on its own.

Last up is the Fenty Hydra Reset Intensive Recovery Glycerin Hand Mask. This product is supposed to contain 40% glycerin and claims to hydrate and improve the look of wrinkles and fine lines. It’s actually meant to be used as a mask, not a regular hand cream, because it is a bit sticky and thick, so I use it at night and let it sink in before going to bed. It comes out as a thick, semi-transparent white balm. I am almost done with my second tube of this product and have already purchased a third tube because it is so moisturizing. I absolutely cannot stand my hands to feel the least bit dry and scratchy! This keeps my hands feeling moisturized well into the next day. My one gripe is that the tube is hard to squeeze, but that has not kept me from repurchasing it three times!
