Shiny Eyes and Lips

Today I’m reviewing the Urban Decay Moondust eyeshadow in the shade “Glitter Rock,” which is described as a “high-performance, vegan eyeshadow packed with microfine glitter for the most sparkly, supercharged color and shimmery finish that last up to 16 hours.” The formula has been recently updated to be vegan and to include caffeine, which supposedly helps with puffiness. The color of “Glitter Rock” is described as a “multidimensional pink sparkle.”

I’ll also be reviewing a mini lipstick that I purchased from Tarte’s website, the Maracuja Juicy Lipstick Lipstick in “Rose,” which the company describes as a “soft pink beige.” This product is supposed to be a lipstick-balm hybrid that is supposed to provide the full color and satin finish of a lipstick but feel like a lip balm

I became interested in the Moondust eyeshadows because some of the You Tube beauty influencers I watch really love the shade “Space Cowboy,” which is a “light champagne with silver sparkle.” They described it as an “eyeshadow topper” which can be placed on top of another eyeshadow to change the color and add a sparkly look. “Space Cowboy” looks gorgeous, but as a lover of all things pink, I was drawn to purchase “Glitter Rock,” thinking that it could be used to make other eyeshadows look more pink and sparkly. However, “Glitter Rock” does not really act as a topper for me. It is fairly opaque on its own. It makes most light-toned eyeshadows look like a light, metallic, sparkly pink!

In the picture below, I am wearing Tarte’s stick eyeshadow in “Rose Gold Luster” on my right eye (on the left side of the picture) and Athr Beauty’s powder shadow in “Rose Quartz” on my left eye (on the right side of the picture). Admittedly, these two shadows are similar in color, though the Tarte is more gold and the Athr Beauty is more metallic and more pink.

In the next picture, I have topped each of these eyeshadows with “Glitter Rock.” They both look like the same color now, though more shiny and glittery than before. Overall, I do like this eyeshadow, though it is more opaque than I was expecting and actually leans more lavender than pink in my opinion.

The first day I wore it, I used no eyeshadow primer underneath and got some glitter fallout under my eyes. For these pictures today, I used MAC’s Paint Pot in Painterly, a staple eye primer for me, and did not get any fallout at all. The product does seem to last for hours without fading, even without primer, so that’s a plus. I applied it with my fingertip, so I noticed that it had a slightly rough texture in the pan.

MOONDUST PROS:

  • Opaque
  • Long-wearing
  • Beautiful color and finish, if you like sparkly pink
  • Little to no fallout with a primer underneath
  • Will add sparkle to satin eyeshadows

MOONDUST CONS:

  • Will cover up the color of any eyeshadow underneath
  • Will get glitter under your eyes if not using an eye primer

On to the Tarte lipstick! Tarte has a few different maracuja oil “Juicy” lip products, including a balm and a lip plumper, but I decided to try the lipstick formula since I already have so many lip balms. This lipstick promised to still be quite balmy but with full color and sounded like something nice to throw on during the day when my lips start to feel dry, but I’d still like to wear a noticeable lip color that won’t worsen the dryness.

I received the product just today and was pleased to note that the packaging feels sturdy even though it is only the mini size.

I can throw this in my purse and not have to worry about it breaking or the cap coming off. The product itself functions just as advertised, feeling like a smooth balm but imparting full color. It has a faint coconut scent and provides a satin finish, looking neither matte nor intensely shiny, which is my preferred lipstick finish. Because of its balm consistency, this lipstick does not last through snacks or meals, though surprisingly it does leave behind a light staining effect after the balm wears off, so on the plus side I still have a bit of color until I can reapply. I’m glad I tried this lipstick! It will be great for keeping in my purse for a hit of color and moisture anytime.

Thanks for reading!
