SKIN CARE FAVORITES

Image
This week I’d like to tell you about some skincare products that I have been enjoying. Two of these are recent discoveries, but the rest are tried-and-true products that I have repurchased two or more times.  My newest find is the Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Dew Drops serum. I’d seen social media influencers rave about this product but never paid it much attention and didn’t plan to try it. Well, then I received a sample size of the Glow Recipe serum and was unexpectedly impressed with how moisturizing it was and how soft it made my skin feel. The company calls it a “highlighting serum” that provides a “glow” or slightly shiny finish and, with regular use, reduces hyperpigmentation. It can be used under makeup as a moisturizer. It’s such a cosmetically elegant product with the perfect amount of smoothness and hydration for my oily skin type. I have yet to come across another moisturizer that gives my “mature” skin a softer, more moisturized look without making it look...

Shiny Eyes and Lips

Today I’m reviewing the Urban Decay Moondust eye shadow in the shade “ Glitter Rock,” which is described as a “h igh-performance, vegan eyeshadow packed with microfine glitter for the most sparkly, supercharged color and shimmery finish that last up to 16 hours.” The form ula has been recently updated to be vegan and to include caffeine, which supposedly helps with puffiness. The color of “Glitter Rock” is described as a “multidimensional pink sparkle.”   I’ll also be reviewing a mini lipstick that I purchased from Tarte’s website, the Maracuja Juicy Lipstick Lipstick in “Rose ,” which the company describes as a “soft pink beige.” This product is supposed to be a lipstick-balm hybrid that is supposed to provide the full color and satin finish of a lipstick but feel like a lip balm I became interested in the Moondust eyeshadows because some of the You Tube beauty influencers I watch really love the shade “Space Cowboy,” which is a “light champagne with silver spar...

Sunscreen Struggles

Having recently realized that my favorite facial sunscreen, Paula's Choice Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30, has gone from $28 to $ 37 (for 2 ounces) in just a few years, I have begun a hunt for a less expensive sunscreen for the face. Th is sunscreen is my favorite because it dries down to a matte finish very quickly after application. It never looks or feels greasy and works well with any other makeup I’ve ever applied on top of it, such as foundations and blushes .   As an aside, t he US sunscreen market is limited because of the way the FDA regulates sunscreen here as opposed to the slightly different rules and circumstances in Canada, Australia, Europe, and Asia. We have relatively few FDA-approved sunscreen filters here in the US compared to other countries. I’m thinking that’s part of why so many US sunscreens are so goopy and thick. If you’d like to know more about limitations in American sunscreens, I highly recommend th e episode "Screening Sunscreen...

Lip Balm Battle

Today I’m going to be discussing s even different lip balms that I have been testing lately. My lips always seem to look and feel dry , even in the middle of summer with all the humidity Texas can dish up . My lip balm stash continues to grow yet my lips are still dry, so I decided to dedicate a week t o try out different lip balms overnight and see which ones , if any, come out on top. That way I can focus on using what really works and ditch the rest!   My super scientific testing method (just kidding) was to apply one of the balms before bed and then check in the morning to see if my lips look and feel moisturized and if there is any of the balm left on my lips.   The balm I’ve had the longest is the Fourth Ray Overnight Lip Treatment . The one I have is in “ Clarice ” and was part of the “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” holiday collection from last year. Fourth Ray is ColourPop’s sister company, producing skin care and body care products. “Clarice” i s a thick...
